New Delhi: A three-year-old boy is in coma and battling for his life at a hospital in New Delhi, after suffering severe injuries in a road accident on January 25.
The boy, Harshit, was travelling with his parents in an auto-rickshaw in Delhi's Timarpur area when they were hit by a speeding car, allegedly driven by a drunk driver. The driver is now out on bail.
Such was the impact of the crash that the auto completely crumpled.
Harshit, who suffered serious injuries on this head, has brain hemorrhage which resulted in paralysis on the right side of his body. His left leg was broken in the accident and he also lost sight in one of his eyes.
"Harshit would wear a helmet even when he sat on his toy cycle. I never thought something like this could happen to him," said his father Mritunjay Roy, who works as a crime reporter in a newspaper.
Harshit is admitted at the Holy Family Hospital in the national capital. His treatment costs around Rs 18,000 per day. His father, Mr Roy, has spent all his savings in the last three weeks on the leg surgery, ventilator and ICU charges, and is now banking on his friends and relatives for financial support.
