File photo: Mahi Sinha with her husband
New Delhi:
Three-year-old Ishu was at home with his mother on a Saturday afternoon when two armed men walked into their house in East Delhi.
Ishu's mother, a freelance 29-year-old journalist named Mahi Sinha, was strangled. His father was at work at the shop he owns, and is now a suspect in his wife's murder.
The family's domestic help was warned by the men that if she tried to intervene, her young son, who was playing in the house, would be killed.
The intruders then left with Ishu.
Ishu's father reported a ransom call for Rs 50 lakh. The police says that one of the two kidnappers was identified as his employee by the domestic help.
On Monday morning, Ishu was found in Uttarakhand. A couple of the policemen from Delhi who located him were stabbed in the rescue operation by the kidnappers, who were later captured. The police have sought a transit remand from a court in Haridwar to bring the kidnappers to Delhi.
The police has questioned Ishu's father and feels the kidnapping may have been staged to make it seem as Mahi was killed as part of an abduction attempt. The three-year-old is currently with policemen; they will decide who he should stay with while the case is resolved.
