A gang of four hijacked a truck carrying Samsung mobile phone parts worth Rs 26 crore late on Wednesday night, almost getting away with what the police called the biggest heist in Delhi.
All four have been arrested. One of them, believed to have been crucial to the plan, is an insider - a driver with the same freight company that operates the stolen truck.
"We have arrested four. Three more could be arrested. The truck was carrying high end Samsung mobile parts. If these had not been recovered then it would have badly affected the company's mobile production. We are trying to find out who would have bought the stolen goods," said Delhi police officer MS Randhawa.
The police said the truck driver, Ghanshyam, sensing trouble from the white car that kept trying to overtake him, speeded up. The car soon caught up and the men allegedly beat up the driver and his helper before driving off in the truck. On the way, they disabled its GPS locator.
The truck was transporting components imported from Korea, which included integrated circuit and motherboards for high-end mobile phones yet to be launched, the police said.
