New Delhi: The Delhi police on Sunday claimed to have busted an illegal betting racket in Shakarpur area of East Delhi with arrest of seven persons even as it suspended four of its own personnel under whose "protection" the racket was running.
A special team in a raid on Saturday arrested Lappu, Shahid, Javed, Sanjay, Kuldeep, Nafees and another persons (also named Javed) for running the illegal betting racket.
The raid was conducted on directions of DCP Rishi Pal following complaints of protection by the beat police personnel to the racket, said a police officer.
Fourteen suspected clients who were indulging in betting with the accused were also nabbed by police during the raid at a house in F Block of West Jawahar Nagar, he said.
Four beat policemen, including a head constable and three constables, were suspended after it came to light that the racket, being run by a woman, had "blessings" of the accused cops, added the officer.
