Four people were killed after they were run over by a speeding truck when they were sleeping on a road divider in northeast Delhi last night. Two others were also injured in the incident that occurred near the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus depot in Seemapuri area at 1.51 am, police said.
The dead were identified as Kareem, 52, Chhote Khan, 25, Shah Alam, 38, and Rahul, 45. Manish, 16, and Pradeep, 30, were among those injured.
Two of the six victims died on the spot, said police, adding that four others were rushed to the GTB hospital. One of them was declared brought dead and another died during treatment, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) R Sathiyasundaram.
Visuals this morning showed their bodies near the divider and an electric pole toppled over at the spot.
The driver was driving rashly and negligently, said Mr Sathiyasundaram.
The driver fled the spot with the truck after the incident, police said. Multiple police teams have been formed to trace him and a case has been registered.
