New Delhi:
Four people, including a woman were killed and at least seven others were severely injured in two separate incidents of fire in the national capital this evening.
In the first incident, a major fire broke out at a factory in Wazirpur Industrial area in which a woman, identified as Prabhati Devi (50), died and seven persons, including a minor girl, sustained severe injuries, a senior official said.
The fire, which broke out on the second floor of the building, is suspected to have originated from electronic equipment used in the process of extracting metals from scraps.
Several fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the flames were doused by 6.30 PM. A rescue operation was launched and all injured persons were first taken to Bhagvan Mahavir Hospital and later shifted to the burns ward at Safdarjung Hospital,the official said.
All the eight persons worked as labourers in the factory. A case has been registered and the owner of the factory is absconding. Efforts are on to track him down, a senior police official said.
In a separate incident, reported 7.45 PM, at north Delhi's Gulabi Bagh area, three persons were killed after a major fire broke out in a godown.
Two of the deceased were identified as Shamsher Singh (40) and Dhruv (26). The identity of the third man is yet to be ascertained. The three of them worked as labourers in the godown and they were last seen unloading a consignment of thinner when the fire broke out.
Seven fire tenders were rushed to the spot and all three were taken to hospital where they succumbed to their injuries. A case has been registered in connection with this matter too and the owner of the godown went absconding after the incident.
