New Delhi:
Four labourers, including two brothers, were buried alive while sleeping in a godown after as many as 50 rice sacks fell on them in Alipur area of outer Delhi, police said today.
Deceased were identified as Lattun Yadav (23), Pawan Yadav (37), Manoj (22) and Santosh (24), all natives of Samastipur district of Bihar.
Police said that the incident took place last night when the four labourers, who worked in a rice godown, were sleeping inside it.
"They went to sleep between 11-12 pm last night on the passage between the stored rice bags sack, weighing 50 kg each. When they were sleeping, 50 rice bags suddenly fell on them," said a senior police official.
The official said the incident came to light this morning when Ashok Yadav, who also works as a labourer and was also sleeping inside the godown at a distance of 50 meters from the victims last night, checked on them this morning.
"Ashok woke up around 7.30 am and could not find his four associates and saw that rice bags had fallen on them. He removed these bags with the help of other labourers," official added.
After the incident, all four were rushed to a nearby hospital where they were declared dead by the doctors.
A case has been registered under Section 304A of the Indian Penal Code or IPC at Alipur police station and police have also questioned godown owner and further investigation is on.
