New Delhi:
Four persons have been arrested for allegedly assaulting security guards and rioting at the AIIMS Trauma Centre in New Delhi, police said today.
According to the police, the incident was reported between 8.30 pm and 9 pm on Saturday, after a youth, who had met with a road accident near south Delhi's Lodhi Road, was rushed to the trauma centre, where he was declared dead on arrival.
After the youth's body was shifted to the mortuary, around 100 persons - most of them the youth's friends and relatives - gathered at the prohibited zone, and insisted on seeing his body. When security officials at the hospital tried to disperse them, they were allegedly attacked.
A case under charges of rioting, trespassing to commit offence punishable by imprisonment, voluntarily causing hurt and damage of public property was registered at the Safdarjung Enclave police station, said a police official.
The four arrested so far have been identified as Naresh, Amarjeet, Himalaya and Nizamil.
The police are monitoring CCTV footage obtained from the hospital premises and are in the process of identifying more people who were involved in the alleged rioting.
"Investigation is underway and more arrests are likely," the official added.
