486 prosecuted for excess tinted glass on vehicles

New Delhi: A total of 486 people have been prosecuted during a special drive against vehicles with tinted glass exceeding the prescribed level, Delhi Police said Thursday.

"Many of them were repeat offenders who did not mind paying the fine again, but they did not want to remove their costly films," Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Satyendra Garg said.

According to the rules, the front and rear glasses of a vehicle should have 70 percent transparency and side glasses should have minimum 50 percent transparency.

In 2010, Delhi Police had issued 2,971 challans (fines), but in the first six months of this year, they have prosecuted 32,932 offenders for usage of tinted glass, which is 16 times more than in the whole of last year.
