New Delhi: Seven persons have been arrested for abducting a doctor and his compounder from south east Delhi's Jaitpur area last week and demanding a ransom of Rs 25 crore, police said on Tuesday.
40-year-old Vinod Kumar and his compounder Ajay (21) were rescued by a team of Delhi Police including officials of the Special Cell from Etah in UP on August 18 after the police traced Dr Kumar's cell phone, used by the abductors to make the ransom call, they said.
Several police teams swooped down in the area forcing the abductors to flee, abandoning the doctor and his compounder, to evade arrest, DCP (southeast) Mandeep Singh Randhawa said. The duo were rescued from a forest area in Etah and raids were conducted to nab the culprits. Two of the accused -- Ram Besh and Chattar Pal were held from Farukhabad Road in Kayamganj in Uttar Pradesh, he said.
The complainant received a ransom call of Rs 25 crore and when he expressed his inability to pay the amount, the abductors brought it down to Rs 39 lakh, DCP Randhawa said.
Further interrogation led to the revelation that Manish resided near Dr Kumar's clinic and was aware about his flourishing business. Around two months back, three men of his native village came to live with him and they planned the abduction. They were joined by brothers Rahul and Gaurav, residents of Gurgaon.
