New Delhi:
A seven-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 35-year-old neighbour in north Delhi's Burari area, police said today.
The accused in the case is a painter by profession and was working temporarily at the office of the girl's father. He was arrested by police and produced before a court, which sent him to 14-day judicial custody, a senior police official said.
The incident took place on Friday when the accused was working on a wall and the girl came to her father's office while playing with her friends.
The accused sent the other children away and allegedly forced himself on the seven-year-old, the official said.
Later, the girl complained about pain in her private parts and on being taken into confidence she told her parents about the incident, the official said. They raised an alarm and charged the accused, who lives in the same neighbourhood. Locals too allegedly beat him before calling up police.
The girl was sent to a hospital and her condition is said to be stable. The accused has been booked under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, the official added.
