New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party activists took to the streets on Wednesday to protest against a BJP legislator allegedly abusing AAP lawmaker Alka Lamba in the Delhi Assembly.
Delhi Assembly speaker Ram Niwas Goel had suspended the BJP legislator from Vishwasnagar , OP Sharma, on Tuesday till tomorrow for making the alleged remarks. Mr Sharma had made the remarks during a discussion on the homeless in Delhi. He was not present at his home in Defence Enclave when the protests were held.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had expressed his shock over the comments and hoped that the BJP would take action against its lawmaker. "Am shocked at language used by O P Sharma, BJP MLA, against a lady lawmaker. 2 days back also, he abused a lady MLA. Hope BJP will act against him(sic)," the chief minister had tweeted.
The discussion had been initiated by opposition leader Vijender Gupta of the BJP, who accused the ruling party of neglecting the homeless. Ms Lamba intervened in the discussion saying that the deaths were not because of the cold weather but drug abuse. Mr Sharma then allegedly made an offensive personal comment on her triggering protests from AAP lawmakers. They rushed to the Speaker demanding his expulsion.
