Aam Aadmi Party legislator Alka Lamba was injured this morning after a man threw stones at her during an anti-drug drive near north Delhi's Kashmere Gate. Her party workers gave chase and caught the man, Ms Lamba said, but there is no word on whether he has been identified.
AAP leader Ashutosh tweeted to say that the locals claimed the man worked in a sweet shop owned by BJP lawmaker OP Sharma. Her party said he was seen standing close to the sweet shop. It was part of a "deep conspiracy," Ashutosh tweeted.The anti-drug rally was being led my Ms Lamba, the from Chandni Chowk area at 5 am. Around 6 am a man with his face covered approached her and threw stones at her aiming for her head.
"Out of nowhere a rock hit my head. Immediately I noticed I was bleeding very badly from my head," she said. Ms Lamba was rushed to Aruna Asaf Ali hospital and released a short while later. The police are questioning the man.
"The motive of the attack wasn't to target me, but to disrupt this anti-drug drive. The drug menace is being carried out under the watch of the police," she said. "I hope the police will investigate the attack. AAP will continue to fight the drug menace. I will start the drive again tomorrow." Ms Lamba said.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, "Proud of you, Alka."
Ms Lamba had defeated her nearest rival, BJP's Suman Kumar Gupta, by more than 18,200 votes in the Assembly elections held in February.
