New Delhi: The bail petition of Aam Aadmi Party legislator Dinesh Mohaniya has been rejected. The legislator, who was arrested on Saturday for allegedly molesting women, will remain in jail custody till July 11.

The women had allegedly visited Mr Mohaniya, the vice chairman of Delhi Jal Board, to complain about water crisis. He was arrested while he was addressing a press conference.

Mr Mohaniya's arrest resulted in yet another clash between the Arvind Kejriwal government and the Centre. Holding Prime Minster Narendra Modi directly responsible, the Delhi Chief Minister accused him of declaring "emergency" in Delhi.

The BJP alleged that the arrest has revealed the "anti-women character" of AAP leaders.

Mr Mohaniya has been booked under charges of causing hurt, criminal intimidation and using word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman, the police said.

Mr Mohaniya is the eighth AAP legislator to be arrested by the Delhi Police since the party came to power for the second time in Delhi in February 2015.
