AAP Rebel Pankaj Pushkar Suspended From Delhi Assembly

Pankaj Pushkar was suspended as he kept on demanding a discussion on economically weaker category in schools despite the Speaker's objection.

New Delhi: Timarpur lawmaker Pankaj Pushkar, a dissident face of ruling AAP, was today suspended from the Delhi Assembly for two days as he kept on demanding a discussion on economically weaker category in schools despite the Speaker's objection.

The suspension bars Mr Pushkar from participating in the Assembly's proceedings today and on November 30, when it will meet next after the weekend. The session has been extended till December 4.

Delhi Home Minister Satyender Jain moved the proposal to suspend Mr Pushkar, which was then voted upon. Following unanimous approval from the House, Speaker Ram Niwas Goel gave his ruling in favour of Mr Pushkar's suspension.

Meanwhile, the six woman lawmakers of AAP including Alka Lamba, walked out of the House demanding BJP legislator OP Sharma's "permanent suspension" for using derogatory language against her.

Earlier, Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta gave a notice demanding suspension of House proceedings alleging that the government was not following the Constitution in its functionings. It was rejected by the Speaker prompting a walkout by Mr Gupta and BJP lawmaker Jagdish Pradhan.

"We did not want to obstruct the proceedings. But the BJP MLAs themselves demanded suspension of work instead of apologising for their colleagues' mistake," Ms Lamba said.

Yesterday, Mr Sharma, who is BJP's Vishwas Nagar (East) lawmaker, was suspended from the Assembly for the rest of the ongoing Winter Session by Mr Goel for using derogatory language against Ms Lamba.

Mr Goel also referred the matter to the Ethics Committee of the House for further probe as six women lawmakers of the Aam Aadmi Party, sporting black badges, sat in the well of the House demanding permanent suspension of Mr Sharma and that he be "jailed".
