New Delhi: An Afghan national was today arrested for allegedly illegally carrying foreign currency worth Rs one crore at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in Delhi.
Due to surveillance kept on passengers going to the Gulf, a man from Afghanistan was intercepted at the departure hall of IGIA and on the search of his baggage foreign currency of different countries equivalent to Rs 1.03 crore was recovered, a customs official said.
The accused, who was going to Dubai, was allegedly carrying Canadian dollars, British Pound, Emirati Dirham and Swiss Franc among others.
The passenger was arrested and currency recovered was seized, the official said.
As per norms, there is no cap on carrying foreign currency by a foreign national provided one gives a valid proof of its legal source, he said.
