24 hours after her classmate attacked her on the head with an axe at Delhi's famous Jahawarlal Nehru University (JNU), Roshni Gupta is in critical condition in hospital after undergoing a major second surgery.
The 22-year-old has serious skull injuries and blood supply to her brain has been affected, said her doctors.
On Wednesday, Roshni was in her classroom when Aakash Kumar, 23, walked in carrying a bag with a pistol, a knife, an axe and a bottle of rat poison. When she turned down his request to leave with him, he struck her with the axe repeatedly before killing himself by drinking the poison. Both were rushed to the hospital. Aakash died two hours later.
The police said that a four-page letter allegedly written by Aakash before the tragedy says the couple's friends are aware of what provoked his action. The police said friends and classmates will be questioned soon.
Aakash's family has arrived in Delhi from Bihar.
