New Delhi: All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) will issue certificate of appreciation to its security officials and engineers for showing courage and filing an FIR against AAP legislator Somnath Bharti for damaging a fence at the hospital premises here and misbehaving with guards.
"AIIMS in recognition of services rendered by the Engineers and Security Officials has decided to issue certificates of appreciation for showing outstanding courage and resilience in protecting AIIMS property in the face of grave intimidation," said a statement from AIIMS.
According to AIIMS, on September 9 Delhi legislator Somnath Bharti along with approximately 300 supporters assembled in Gautam Nagar and started breaking the fence and the boundary wall of AIIMS with the help of excavator-cum-loader in order to give access to unauthorised persons inside AIIMS property.
"Somnath Bharti was claiming that the road belongs to the general public. They were requested to produce orders of the competent authority which they failed to produce," said the statement.
The medical institution, in its first communique over the issue, alleged that Mr Bharti and men with him were not accompanied by any government official of the Delhi government.
"It was explained to Somnath Bharti that the procedure he is adopting is not correct and AIIMS had necessary approvals. Somnath Bharti started misbehaving and abusing AIIMS security personnel. Six security personnel received injuries while protecting AIIMS property," said the statement.
Mr Bharti was on Thursday arrested by the Delhi Police in connection with the case, but was later granted bail on a personal security bond of Rs 30,000.
