A senior doctor at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi has been arrested on abetment to suicide charges after the body of his wife was found at a hotel in the city on Saturday.
Priya Vedi, also a doctor at the AIIMS, was found with her wrist slit at a hotel in Paharganj in East Delhi. Police says a suicide note found from her room says she was mentally and physically harassed by her husband, Dr Kamal Vedi.
The suicide note by the 31-year-old doctor also alleges the husband lied about his sexual orientation.
The couple, both resident doctors at AIIMS, had been married for five years.
The police has booked Dr Vedi for abetment to suicide and under various sections of the Dowry Act. "A case under Sections 498A(cruelty) and 304B (dealing with the offences of dowry death) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central)
