New Delhi: The man who has confessed to sexually assaulting and killing nearly 30 children in and around Delhi had "minor anger problems, but always behaved nicely with children," said his mother to NDTV today.
Ravinder Kumar, 24, was arrested last week for killing a five-year-old. While being taken into court, he told NDTV, "I lose control over my mind after consuming excessive alcohol."
Investigating teams are searching the areas where Kumar, who worked as a bus cleaner, claimed to have committed the crimes.
"If he has done all this, I feel the pain of other mothers who have lost their children," said his mother to NDTV.
Among his four brothers, one was arrested last month for murdering a young woman in the neighbourhood where the Kumars live.
Till Kumar was arrested, he lived with his parents and three of his brothers in a tiny two-room house in North Delhi. Now the owner of the house wants the family to leave, said Kumar's parents; they say they have nowhere to go.
A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry must determine if their son is truly guilty, they told NDTV. Last year, Kumar was arrested for attempting to murder a four-year-old and was then released on bail.
The family survived largely on the incomes of Kumar, who dropped out of school after Class 5, and his father, who is trained as a plumber.
Kumar has reportedly told the police that he used sweets and money to draw young boys and girls to deserted places including a large dried canal.
That is one of many grisly similarities between the serial murders he has reportedly spoken of, and the infamous Nithari case. In 2006, the bones and skulls of young children were found in a sewage drain near a large house in Nithari in Noida - the serial murderer, Surinder Singh Kohli, is serving a life sentence.
