New Delhi: A Mayor-led North Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) team was today allegedly not allowed to carry out dengue breeding check at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's official residence, but the Delhi government said they had come only with the intention of "creating drama".
"We went at 8:30 AM to the CM's official residence in Civil Lines area but I and my entire civic staff, including the dengue breeding checkers, were not allowed to enter the bungalow," Mayor of BJP-ruled North Delhi Municipal Corporation Ravinder Gupta alleged.
A source in the Delhi government, however, said, "Fogging at the CM residence was done yesterday. Then, why did they come with 14 fogging machines today?"
"They (NDMC) are trying to waste time and resources. They had only brought those machines with the intention of creating drama. With the numbers of machines and personnel they had, they could have easily done fogging in the entire Civil Lines area and the complete neighbourhood," a source said.
However, Mr Gupta hit out at the chief Minister saying, "On one hand, he says he wants to fight dengue and on the other he does something like this. What signal is he sending to the masses."
However, when asked, if he visited any other houses in the area, the Mayor said, "I went only to the CM House in Civil Lines Zone."
Mr Kejriwal's official residence falls in the Civil Lines Zone of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC).
More than 20 people have died of the vector-borne disease and the number of cases has shot up to over 2,000, creating a sense of unease and panic among the Delhi residents.
Among the three civic bodies, NDMC has reported the maximum cases of 776 from its area till September 12. Civil Lines Zone has reported 145 cases during the same period.
