Arrest Lt Governor Najeeb Jung In Civic Official's Murder Case, Demands AAP

Najeeb Jung's Office said the charges by the Aam Aadmi Party were "frivolous".

New Delhi: Days after demanding the arrest of BJP lawmaker Maheish Girri over the murder of NDMC officer MM Khan, the Aam Aadmi Party said there was enough evidence to link Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung to the case. The party has demanded that Mr Jung step down immediately and be placed under arrest.

A committee of the Delhi assembly has also decided to summon the Lieutenant Governor and Mukesh Meena, the chief of Anti-Corruption Bureau regarding four corruption cases filed during the Sheila Dikshit government, said Delhi's Deputy Speaker Rakhi Birla.

Legal experts, however, pointed out that the assembly does not have the jurisdiction to summon the Lieutenant Governor.

AAP released some papers, claiming they establish the Lieutenant Governor's link to the prime accused in the case, hotelier Ramesh Kakkar. The party has also linked Mr Girri to Mr Kakkar. Party chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had said says before the murder, Ramesh Kakkar wrote to Mr Jung, asking him to sack the official and the letter had been forwarded by Mr Girri.

"Such a grave incident hints at a political conspiracy," said Delhi's Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. "The three people who hold political patronage were Tanwar, Girri and the LG. But was it only three of them or more people were there?"

In a statement, Mr Jung's office said, "Everyone understands the claims of the Aam Aadmi Party are frivolous and therefore the attempt to draw political mileage from this tragedy is sad."

Mr Khan, an estate officer of New Delhi Municipal Council, was shot dead in Delhi's Jamia Nagar a day before he was before he was scheduled to pass the final order on the lease terms of hotel 'The Connaught', which was functioning from a property of the civic body.
