Assault on chemist caught on CCTV: Security officers among five arrested
CCTV footage shows chemist in Delhi being beaten up personal security officers
New Delhi: Three days after CCTV footage of a chemist in Delhi being brutally beaten up was aired on news channels, police today arrested five men on charges of assault and criminal intimidation.

Three of them are private security officers (PSOs) from Uttar Pradesh Police, attached to a relative of senior Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav.

The accused were seen in the footage, assaulting Ashok Malik, a chemist, inside his shop in south Delhi, last week.

Mr Malik had alleged that a woman had abused him over the phone on the night of September 17 when he told her driver that the cough syrup that he was asking for was not available. Few minutes later, the security officers barged into his shop and began hitting him.

Despite lodging a complaint, Delhi Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) only after the CCTV footage was aired by media.
