New Delhi: The condition of baby Falak, the two-year-old baby girl brought in a battered state to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), is stable, a doctor monitoring her condition said.

"Baby Falak's condition is stable but she is not out of danger," Dr. M C Mishra said. "Her lung infection has improved," he added.

The doctor said that they will once again try to remove her from the ventilator. The results of her blood culture tests and other reports are better, but not negative, he added.

The doctors were observing how the toddler was responding to antibiotics and had sent her body fluid samples for another round of culture tests.

"Her chances of survival are bleak at less than 50 percent," Deepak Agrawal, associate professor of neurosurgery at the AIIMS Trauma Centre, told reporters here.

Constant medical investigations have revealed that she has developed septicemia, an infection in the blood which can spread to vital organs, apart from the already existing brain and chest infection.

"We are monitoring her vital organs and administering strong antibiotics to stop spreading the infection to other parts. She is moving her eyes, arms and legs slightly. But she is in a deeply unconscious state," Agrawal said.

"We are not going to perform any surgery as of now. We have to wait and see how she responds to the medicines administered," he added.

Falak was brought to AIIMS on January 18 with severe head injuries and bite marks all over her face by a 14-year-old girl who is now in a juvenile home.
