Fresh and rejuvenated after his 10-day Vipassana break, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal called a meeting of senior party members at his residence to discuss the Aam Aadmi Party's strategy to fight out three upcoming state elections.
Top sources in AAP say Mr Kejriwal is keen on appointing his Delhi ministers as state convenors or 'prawari'. Though the decision is not final yet, Mr Kejriwal has proposed his top ministers like deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, health minister Satendar Jain and water minister Kapil Mishra become brand ambassadors of AAP in the states.
While Mr Kejriwal will take responsibility for Punjab, Mr Sisodia and Mr Jain will look after Goa. Kapil Mishra will look into poll-bound Gujarat along with senior leader Ashutosh. All states are on the electoral radar of the Aam Aadmi Party.
But what role will Delhi ministers be playing? Not just mere campaigners, along with responsibilities in the capital, the ministers will have key decisions like ticket distribution onto them - of course, raising the question: who takes care of Delhi?
In fact, Mr Sisodia leaves for Goa as soon as next week, sources said. Sources also revealed the major job of the ministers will be to ask for votes based on their Delhi governance model, and compare the state policies with that of the capital.
The AAP is locked in a triangular contest against the BJP-SAD alliance and the Congress in Punjab while it has made major splashes in Gujarat and Goa in the past few months. All three states are going to polls next year.
The party had decimated the BJP and the Congress in the last Delhi assembly election. It is hoping to ride the plank of development, especially in education and health, in meeting success in its other focus states.
