Bengaluru Techie, Arrested for Hoax Calls, Says He Killed Wife: Police

Bengaluru: A Bengaluru techie, arrested for making hoax calls about bombs on international flights, has allegedly confessed to murdering his wife, said the city's police chief N S Megharikh today.

MG Gokul, in his early 30s, was arrested late last for allegedly phoning airport officials and sending WhatsApp messages, claiming security threats to international flights departing from Bengaluru and Delhi.  

Three flights were cancelled at a cost of nearly a million dollars, the police chief said.

Mr Gokul, according to early police inquiries, used a phone registered in the name of a friend whose wife he was allegedly in love with. He hoped to land the man in trouble so that he could attempt to pursue a romance with his wife, the police said, adding that some of the messages referred to the Islamic State.

Mr Gokul's wife, Anuradha, was found dead in their apartment late in June. The police says he has admitted to hitting her on the head with  a statue of Lord Ganesha.

Mr Gokul allegedly used a photo along with identity-establishing documents to get a SIM card in the name of the man whose wife he allegedly coveted. It was the friend who was first questioned, said the police commissioner.
