New Delhi: A BJP lawmaker hoisted up in the air by marshals made for an amusing sight inside the Delhi assembly today.
Vijender Gupta, one of the three BJP legislators in an assembly where 67 members belong to the ruling Aam Aadmi Party, had to be physically removed when he refused to stop shouting during proceedings.
A group of marshals first tried to drag him out and then carried him out of the house to the sound of laughter from the benches.
Yesterday, Mr Gupta had raised loud demands for Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's explanation on his former law minister Jitender Tomar, currently in jail for allegedly faking his degrees. As he and his colleague sat in the middle of the house, two bills were passed.
Today, the BJP demanded better salaries for civic workers.
Moments after the house assembled in the afternoon on Day 2 of the budget session, the BJP members rushed to the centre of the house and started protesting.
This led to marshals stepping in for the second straight day.
Vijender Gupta's non-stop shouting worried even Speaker Ram Niwas Goel, who remarked: "Give him Vicks."
The three BJP members later said just because they were hopelessly outnumbered - AAP swept the February election, leaving only three seats for the BJP and none for the Congress - doesn't mean that they won't be heard.
"The government is undemocratic. They are getting us beaten up. But we will not tolerate anything unconstitutional. We will shout till we are hoarse," Mr Gupta declared.
