BJP leader's sister given 70 sleeping pills by daughter-in-law
New Delhi: The sister of senior Delhi BJP leader, Harsh Vardhan, was administered around 70 sleeping pills and dumped in a heavily drugged state outside the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) mortuary by her daughter-in-law, police said on Tuesday.

Reena Singhal, 28, a resident of Anand Vihar in East Delhi, was arrested on Saturday for drugging her mother-in-law Asha Singhal, 60, with an intent to kill her and grab property and for fabricating the story of her mysterious disappearance, police said.

Reena filed a missing person report about her mother-in-law on Aug 24. Reena is married to Asha's son Parag Singhal.

Reena procured a sleep inducing drug 'Libotryp' and mixed around 70 tablets in a glass of milk which she made her mother-in-law drink on Aug 24 around 11 a.m. Asha immediately fell unconscious.

"Reena, thereafter, hired a vehicle and took her mother-in-law to several hospitals such as IBHAS and Guru Teg Bahadur hospital in Shahdara, Mohan Hospital in Sahibabad, to dump her, but due to the presence of a large number of people around the gates of these hospitals she could not do so," said a senior police officer.

Reena finally dumped her mother-in-law on the footpath in front of the mortuary at AIIMS and left, police said. After that she registered a missing person complaint.

Police said that Reena confessed to police that she drugged her mother-in-law with an intent to kill. Asha had recently sold some property for a huge amount. The final transaction was to materialize on October 3.

"Reena thought that if her mother-in-law was removed, she would become the beneficiary of at least 50 per cent of the money," said the officer.
