New Delhi:
BJP's student organisation Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad swept all four seats in the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) elections today.
Celebrations broke out with fireworks, cheering and a victory march from Kingsway Camp to the North Campus' Arts faculty after results were declared on Saturday.
For the second year in a row, the ABVP trounced Congress' student wing National Students Union of India (NSUI). Aam Aadmi Party's Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti failed to bag even a single seat in its debut election.
Satender Awana won the presidential seat winning 20,439 seats defeating his closest rival by 6327 votes. Sunny Dedha, Anjali Rana and Chhatarpal Yadav won the posts of vice president, secretary and joint secretary respectively.
Ms Rana told NDTV that students voted for the ABVP because of their continued engagement with students throughout the year.
ABVP's victory in the DUSU elections comes as a massive boost for the BJP. Union Minister Arun Jaitley who began his political career at the DUSU took to Twitter to congratulate ABVP.
'Congratulations to ABVP & students of Delhi University on winning the DUSU elections & making a clean sweep by winning all four seats,' Mr Jaitley tweeted.
Voting for the DUSU elections took place on Friday and witnessed a 43.3% turnout, a slight dip from last year's 44% but the results remained a case of deja vu.
