New Delhi:
Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel has denied reports that he had threatened to quit his post if he was not made the party's chief ministerial candidate.
"Since I am not a member of the Central Election Committee of the BJP, I was not to attend the meeting of the same which took place this evening. Therefore the reports in certain sections of media regarding my walking out and threat to resign are baseless," Mr Goel's statement to the press said
Earlier in the day, there were reports that Mr Goel was upset over not being projected as the BJP's chief ministerial candidate for the Delhi Assembly polls.
News agency PTI had said he projected his case for the party's chief ministerial candidate in Delhi saying that he had worked hard to strengthen the BJP in the last eight months.
PTI further said Mr Goel had opposed any move to project senior leader Harsh Vardhan as the party's chief ministerial candidate.
The BJP is hoping to thwart incumbent Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit from seeking a record fourth term in the Delhi elections, to be held on December 4.
Delhi, perhaps for the first time, is witnessing a triangular contest in the forthcoming polls, with Arvind Kejriwal's year-old Aam Aadmi Party set to make significant dents into the mandate of the two national parties.
