New Delhi:
A seven-year-old boy was allegedly abducted and murdered before being dumped near a drain by unidentified person near his home in East Delhi's New Usmanpur area, police said today.
The deceased, identified as Vasu was playing outside his home last evening when he was abducted at around 6:30 PM .
"As his father Mukesh, who runs a garment shop could not find his son, he approached us. We registered a case and launched a search operation for the kid," said a police official.
"A neighbour told police that he had seen the child with a man that evening, we are trying to ascertain his identity."
His body was found near a drain which was not far away from the house of the complainant in the morning. A passer-by spotted the body and informed police. There were no injury marks on his body.
Investigators said that prima facie it looked as if the boy was smothered to death although the exact cause of death could only be ascertained after post-mortem report.
"It seems that personal enmity could be the reason behind the crime as no ransom call was made in this regard," said a senior police official.
