BPO manager runs over cop

BPO manager runs over cop
New Delhi: He had already been booked in nine cases of rash and negligent driving. On Monday afternoon Jaspreet Singh, a senior manager at a call centre Walklet in Sector 59 Noida, again allegedly indulged in rash driving. Only this time, he claimed a life.

Singh, who was reportedly driving his car at a high speed, hit a police motorcycle crushing a 55-year-old Sub Inspector (SI) under his wheels and severely injuring a constable. The incident happened at Copernicus Marg near C Hexagon at around 12:15 pm. "Jaspreet Singh is serial offender. He has been fined nine times for violation of traffic rules. An FIR has been lodged against him under section 304-A, 279 and 337 of IPC and his car has been impounded," said additional deputy commissioner of police, (New Delhi) VK Gupta.

The deceased SI, Hari Ram was on his way to Patiala House court riding pillion with Constable Ashwani Kumar when they were hit. The impact of the collision was so strong that the police officials were thrown off the bike. The SI got entangled in the car's bonnet. "Jaspreet kept dragging the SI for about 150 meters. The car then hit the pavement and one of its tyres burst. He tried to flee from the spot but was nabbed by policemen patrolling in the PCR van close-by," said a senior police official.

Both the policemen were taken to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital but Hari Ram was declared brought dead while Ashwani Kumar, who suffered injuries, is undergoing treatment.

Speaking with MiD DAY, Jaspreet, a son of former director of Ministry of Tourism, said that it was not his fault and claimed that it was the cops who were driving rash and had hit his car. He even sympathised with the deceased.

"A couple of week ago, I also lost my mother. So I can feel the pain of the family members of the deceased," said Jaspreet. In 2006, he had been booked for rash and negligent driving and in 2010, he was booked for over-speeding. Jaspreet's car bore a sticker of an organisation Crimes Reform India, but police say that he has nothing to do with this organisation as it was a second-hand car. The deceased SI was a native of Sonepat and is survived by two sons, who are police constables, and a daughter. He was posted with Tughlak Road police station for a year.
