New Delhi: Two persons were killed and as many injured after a three-storey building collapsed in Chandni Chowk area of Old Delhi this morning.
Five labourers were present in the 80-year-old building located in Krishna Bazaar when the incident took place. While two of them escaped unhurt, one was injured critically.
The person killed in the incident has been identified as Ramkaran, the brother of the contractor overseeing the renovation, locals said.
A family of three lived in one of the floors of the building for almost 40 years.
Asha Chaudhary, one of the residents, said she had protested against the illegal renovation work taking place in the building.
The building was constructed in 1937.
Chandni Chowk is one of the busiest and oldest markets in Old Delhi with many old buildings. Construction and renovation work are not permitted in the area, police said.
