Businessman arrested for sexually assaulting driver's wife

New Delhi: A 58-year-old businessman was arrested in New Delhi for allegedly sexually assaulting his driver's pregnant wife after sedating her, police said on Sunday.

The incident was reported from outer Delhi's Rohini and it came to light on October 19 when the 28-year-old victim approached police alleging Jagjit Singh had sedated her before taking her to a hotel in Chandigarh.

She alleged that Singh, who runs a transport business in Mongolpuri, sexually assaulted her four days ago.

The victim was taken to a hospital where a medical examination confirmed sexual assault.

Singh was picked up for questioning during which he told police that he took advantage of the strained relationship the the woman and his driver were having, a senior police official said.

On October 15, the official said, he called the victim near the Jaipur Golden Hospital on the pretext of sorting out her issues with her husband.

"He asked her to sit inside the car. He then offered her a cold drink which was laced with a sedative. As soon as the victim became unconscious, Singh started to drive to Chandigarh where he sexually assaulted her," the official claimed.

The next day, he dropped the victim off at the same spot outside the hospital where he had picked her up the previous day.
