New Delhi: A 38-year-old businessman was shot and injured on Sunday evening while trying to chase two chain snatchers who were fleeing with his wife's gold chain, police said.

The incident took place in the parking lot of Shahdara metro station when Surender Chaddha was taking out his motorcycle.

Chadha, a resident of Shahdara, had returned on Metro from a relative's residence at around 4 pm and was riding his two wheeler when two motorcycle-borne men snatched his wife Anju's chain.

When he chased them, one of them took out a country-made pistol and opened fire at him. Chaddha was rushed to Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital where he was operated upon.

His condition is said to be stable. "He was first taken to Swami Dayanand hospital before being referred to the Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital," a senior police official said. He was shot at in his stomach.
