New Delhi:
A 35-year-old businessman was shot dead on Sunday night by four unidentified motorcycle-borne men outside his house near a crowded market in east Delhi, police said.
The incident took place in Mangal Bazar in Laxmi Nagar at around 9 pm when the victim Atul Jain was standing outside his house, a senior police official said.
Police suspect business or personal rivalry to be the reason behind the murder.
"Jain was outside his house in the 'gali'. Four men on two motorcycles came and opened fire at him. Four bullets hit him. He was rushed to Hedgewar hospital where he was declared brought dead," the official said.
According to the official, the four attackers fled the scene in one motorcycle after two of them fell from their motorcycle.
"While escaping, a motorcycle slipped and two of them fell down. They jumped to the other motorcycle and they fled the spot," the official said quoting eye-witnesses.
The motorcycle which was abandoned at the spot was found to be stolen from Jafrabad area of the city.
