A case of negligence has been registered against the Delhi Golf Club after a 20-year-old man was found dead in its swimming pool earlier this week.
The deceased man was identified as Rahul Soni, who worked as a cook. In a statement, the club said he was not staff member and used to work with one of its contractors.
The body was discovered on Monday, when the security guards were carrying out a routine inspection after the club had closed. The discovery was made around 11.30 pm. Mr Soni usually left for home around midnight.
Preliminary investigations indicated that Mr Soni did not know how to swim. The police said he may have drowned after entering the deep end of the pool.
Describing the incident as unfortunate, the club, in a statement, said the pool has been running for the past 15 years "with the highest levels of security precautions".
There are no CCTV cameras placed at the pool, the club admitted. The footage from cameras in the adjoining areas and the kitchen have been given to the police, it said.
