New Delhi:
At least Rs.60 lakh were stolen from a cash van collecting money from liquor shops here on Wednesday afternoon, police said.
The theft was reported in Karol Bagh in central Delhi. The van belonged to the ECS cash collection company.
"While two employees went to collect cash from a liquor shop, the guard and the driver went to drink water. They forgot to lock the van," a police officer said.
The guard, Yashwant Singh, told police that when he returned, van driver Azad Singh went to drink water.
"At the time of the incident, Yashwant was standing outside the van. A man in a vehicle nearby distracted the guard's attention saying that he had dropped some money. The box may have been taken out while Yashwant was picking up the money," the officer said.
When the driver returned, they discovered that a cash box containing Rs.60 lakh was missing, he added.
The officer said that Surjeet and Dayachand had gone to collect cash from a nearby liquor shop.
All the four employees are being questioned.
