New Delhi:
A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) constable Ritesh Tripathi was in critical condition on Wednesday after being shot accidentally during a mock drill at a Delhi Metro station, officials said.
The incident took place at the Rohini West station in north Delhi.
Sub-Inspector Sita Ram, 45, fired from his service weapon without knowing that it was loaded. The bullet pierced through the 25-year-old constable's ribs, a CISF official said.
Mr Tripathi, a resident of Madhya Pradesh, was admitted to the Baba Bhim Rao Ambedkar Hospital in critical condition.
CISF spokesperson Hemendra Singh said a probe has been ordered into the incident as participants are not allowed to carry loaded weapons during mock drills.
A case of negligence has also been registered by Delhi Police, he added.
Police have collected CCTV footage from the station to ascertain the sequence of events, while the sub-inspector has been detained.
