New Delhi:
A teenage girl, studying in Class 12, was shot dead at point blank range inside her house on Friday in Munirka in south Delhi. The girl's family has alleged that the accused is a relative who had been harassing her for the last few days. He has been arrested.
The incident occurred on Friday morning when two men, including the accused, barged into the victim's home and shot her in the chest, according to the police. The duo then fled from the spot. They were later apprehended by the police.
Neighbours, who heard the gunshots and the subsequent commotion, informed the cops.
"I saw that she was shot in the chest and was bleeding profusely," said Bhishamraj, a neighbor.
The victim, a student of a government school, was rushed to Safdarjung Hospital where she was declared brought dead.
The accused was identified by the girl's father as a distant relative who, he alleged, wanted to marry her and had threatening her several times before.
The brazen, daylight murder of the girl has brought into focus yet again the issues of safety and security of women in the national capital.
