New Delhi:
A student of class 9 in Delhi has been beaten to death with iron rods, allegedly by his two classmates. A class monitor, he had complained about their misbehaviour to the teacher, police said.
Shubham Jindal, 14, was a student of Krishna Model School in southwest Delhi. He had gone missing on Sunday evening. His body was found from the forest area in Najafgarh around 3 am on Monday.
The two boys - aged 14 and 15 - who allegedly attacked him, were caught later in the day from Haryana's Jhajjhar town. Being minors, they will soon be produced before the juvenile justice board.
"Shubham was a very straightforward boy. Had he not been the class monitor he would still be alive," said his grieving mother.
Police said Shubham had complained to the teacher about the boys on Saturday. The next day, determined to teach him a lesson, the two went to his house on the pretense of borrowing some notes.
They did not find Shubham at home, but ran into him on their way back.
According to the police, they asked him to come play and all three went towards the Najafgarh area. There, at a secluded spot, they attacked Shubham, hitting him on the head with iron rods, the police said.
Shubham died on the spot from internal bleeding. His two assailants got onto a bus and headed for Haryana.
"We didn't think it through," the boys reportedly told the police after they were caught.
