College student arrested for stealing gold

New Delhi: A 22-year-old college student was arrested in outer Delhi for allegedly stealing gold jewellery from her landlord's house, police said today.

Saviti, the accused had moved into the the first floor of her landlord in Rohini's Avantika area just 15 days ago, and allegedly stole the jewellery on Wednesday when the landlord's family was not present.

"We have arrested her yesterday. She is studying in Satyawati College. She is student of BA second year. She was married to one Deepak in the year 2010 but due to strained relations, her husband had filed divorce petition against her. After that, she started residing with her friend Paras in Vijay Vihar. Recently, she had shifted to present house in Avantika," Chhaya Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer), said.

The Vijay Grower, the complainant, informed police that his family had gone out on March 23 afternoon to meet his sister in Khayala and came back in the late night. Next day, his daughter discovered that her gold jewellery was not traceable, Sharma said.

During investigation, Sharma said, the complainant told police that while he was leaving, he had informed Saviti to take care of his house.

"Saviti was interrogated thoroughly and finally she broke down and confessed to have committed the burglary at the house of complainant. She used to visit the house of complainant. She knew that there was huge gold jewellery in the house.

"On Wednesday, she gained access in the house through by breaking the iron jail.  Stolen gold and silver jewellery was recovered from Saviti which she had concealed in the kitchen," Sharma said.
