Congress Continues Its Protests Over Delhi's Power and Water Crisis

The Congress has been agitating against the erratic power and water supply in different parts of the capital for the last few days.

New Delhi: Senior Congress leaders led by Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee Chief Arvinder Singh Lovely took to the streets yet again to agitate against the prolonged power cuts and water shortage in the city today.

Addressing party workers and crowds in West Delhi's Karol Bagh area, party leaders threatened to take the protest to the doorstep of BJP ministers including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Criticising the Aam Aadmi Party's performance when it was in power, the Congress leaders said that power lines should be cut at the homes of those responsible for the crisis such as AAP leaders Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia.

The Congress workers also burnt effigies of Mr Modi and Mr Kejriwal.

Mr Lovely added that under the Congress' 15 years of rule, Delhi has never seen a power crisis.

Mr Lovely and other Congress leaders including Sajjan Kumar and Mukesh Sharma were detained by the Delhi police at the Nangloi railway station yesterday, as they tried to block trains in protest against the water and power crisis.

The Congress has been agitating against the erratic power and water supply in different parts of the capital for the last few days.

Following a storm May 30, which damaged transmission lines in Delhi, the city has seen erratic and long power cuts in sweltering heat.

The Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal also held a series of meetings with the power officials. The power department has said that full restoration of power supply will take at least another week.
