Delhi Congress will stage a demonstration in front of the Assembly against delay in tabling of the Jan Lokpal Bill.
New Delhi:
Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken today attacked the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for "delaying" the anti-graft bill or the Jan Lokpal Bill and skipping its tabling in the Assembly in the coming session.
"Your government has already lost six sessions of the Assembly to enact the much needed Jan Lokpal," Mr Maken said urging chief minister Arvind Kejriwal to "revisit" his decision to delay it further.
Attacking the delay in appointment of a Jan Lokpal, the former Union minister questioned Mr Kejriwal as to "Whether the delay was prompted by recent cases of corruption in your cabinet and allegations of irregularities in procurement of onion, sugar, etc."
Jan Lokpal was the prime goal of India Against Corruption and Aam Admi Party which took birth out of that anti- corruption movement, said the Congress leader.
"It was the hard sold promise of AAP in 2013 and 2015 Delhi Assembly elections. The previous Kejriwal government stepped down on the issue accusing Congress of not allowing to bring in a strong Jan Lokpal, yet the anti-graft body is nowhere to be seen," Mr Maken said.
Citing newspaper report about possibility of Jan Lokpal Bill being not tabled by AAP government in the Assembly session starting from November 18, he claimed, it "appeared" Mr Kejriwal is "fooling" people on Jan Lokpal promise.
Delhi Congress will stage a demonstration in front of the Vidhan Sabha on the first day of its session, putting pressure on the government to table the Bill and appoint Jan Lokpal, he added.
