New Delhi: Congress leader Jagdish Tytler, who is also an accused in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case, was allegedly abused and manhandled at a function in Delhi last night.

Mr Tytler was attending a wedding in Chhatarpur in South Delhi when a man, identified as 23-year-old Sehaj Umang Singh Bhatia, verbally abused him and then allegedly flung a glass at him, said an eye-witness. Delhi Police reached the spot and detained the man, who according to sources was drunk. He was released after interrogation.

The Congress leader did not receive any injury.  He has not pressed any charges against the man.

On Friday, a court in Delhi had rejected the closure report filed by the CBI that gave Mr Tytler a clean chit in a case related to a mob attack on a gurudwara on November 11, 1984 and directed it to investigate the charges against him.

The agency had told the court that Mr Tytler was not involved in the attack and it could not trace any witnesses either.

The CBI had filed the report in December 2014. This was the third time - since 2007 - that the court rejected the CBI's closure report absolving Mr Tytler of the charges.
