New Delhi:
Peeved at his wife picking up fights with him often, a suspended police constable allegedly hired men to eliminate her but could not succeed in his plan.
Mangal Singh, the suspended policeman, his friend Raghuvir Singh Rathore and five persons who were allegedly hired by him to kill his wife Meena for Rs 1 lakh were arrested yesterday, police said today.
Singh, against whom his wife had earlier filed a dowry case, took the help of his close friend Raghuvir and others in hatching the plot to kill his wife and made a part payment of Rs 25,000 while another Rs 25,000 was paid to hire a vehicle for them.
According to their plan, on July 25 when Meena was going to his son's school, a car hit her from the front and she was hurt.
"Later, after two hours, Mangal Singh reached the hospital and shifted the woman to a private hospital in Keshav Puram," Chhaya Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Police, South District, said.
The other five arrested have been identifed as Amit Kumar, Anoop, Billu Chaudhary, Anish and Subodh.
The arrests were made based on information that three persons would come on a stolen motorcycle in the evening in Saket.
"Accordingly, a trap was laid and at 7 PM, the motorcycle was intercepted. It was being driven by Anup and Amit and Subhodh were pillion riders. They were not able to produce documents of the motorcycle. On verification, the motor cycle was found to be stolen," she said.
During interrogation, they revealed their involvement in the attempt to murder of Meena, the officer said.
"Mangal Singh is a suspended constable and presently posted at 3rd Bn. DAP and got married to Meena in 1995. The relationship did not last long," Sharma said.
"He disclosed that he was disturbed with the behaviour of his wife and regular fighting at home. He wanted to get rid of her and that is why, he conspired and planned to eliminate her," she said.
