New Delhi: When a dhaba owner in South Delhi's Chanakyapuri area asked a Punjab police constable to pay up for the food he ate last night, little did he know his request would nearly cost him his life.

The cop, Amarjeet Singh, annoyed over the request for the bill, allegedly opened fire at Arjun Prasad Gupta, the dhaba owner. The two shots, which were allegedly fired, missed Mr Gupta.

It all started when Mr Singh along with his two friends came in an SUV to Mr Gupta's dhaba last night and ordered food. When they were served a bill of Rs. 295, Mr Singh allegedly told Mr Gupta that men in uniform normally do not pay.

"Mr Gupta requested them to give some money if not the full amount. Then Mr Singh's associates paid Rs. 200 to him. When Gupta was placing the money in his pocket, Mr Singh allegedly tried to snatch the money from him," a senior police official said.

"When he resisted, Mr Singh and his friends allegedly beat him up. He also threatened him that he would open fire. Mr Gupta told us that his employees ran away. Mr Singh allegedly opened fire at him but luckily none of the bullets hit him," he police official added.
