New Delhi: In yet another attack on policemen in the national capital, unidentified assailants allegedly thrashed a Delhi Police head constable and a home guard at a picket in north-east Delhi's Seelapmpur area last night and also fired shots at them which luckily did not hit anybody.

The assailants were still at large while Head Constable Dharamveer (42) suffered injuries in his head after being assaulted with a rod. He was taken to GTB Hospital where he received several stitches. The home guard was given first-aid, after which both of them were discharged.

The incident took place around 12:20 am when Dharamveer stopped a Swift Dzire car at a picket following which an argument took place between him and the four occupants of the car who took offence for being stopped.

"Although they left after check, the group returned around 1.30 am to the picket armed with sticks, rods and country-made pistol and attacked Dharamveer and the home guard. The Head Constable somehow managed to take out his service revolver after which the assailants fled.
The magazine of their gun was left behind at the scene of crime," said a senior police official.

A case in connection with the incident under the Indian Penal Code sections 307 (attempt to murder), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) and 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) has been registered at the Seelampur police station and a manhunt has been launched to nab the assailants, police said.
