The court will monitor the CBI investigations into Tytler's role in the riots.
New Delhi:
A court in Delhi directed the CBI to investigate the charges against former union minister and Congress leader Jagdish Tytler in a 1984 riots case. The court told the agency it would be monitor the investigations regularly and rejected the closure report filed by agency that had cleared Mr Tytler.
The CBI had filed the report in December 2014. This is the third time - since 2007 - that the court has rejected the CBI's closure report absolving Mr Tytler of the charges.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate SPS Laler said some aspects required to be probed further in the matter. "The purpose of investigation is to unearth true facts and CBI may do all that is required to achieve that goal," the court directed.
Referring to the judgement of a superior court, the court also said that since closure reports have been filed in the case several times, "it would be in the interest of justice if the investigation is monitored by the court on bi-monthly basis so that no aspect of the case is left uninvestigated."
"With these directions, CBI is directed to conduct further investigation in the present case," the court said. The matter has been listed for February 2, 2016.
