Delhi airport, 'world's second-best', flooded after heavy rain
New Delhi: Two days after it was voted the world's second best airport, Delhi's Indira Gandhi International or IGI Airport proved otherwise.

Passengers posted photos of themselves on Twitter wading through knee-deep water. (See pics)

Delhi received its monsoon on Sunday nearly two weeks before it was expected.

The area near the airport received unprecedented rain, the Met department said it received rainfall of 117.8 mm in four and a half hours.

Services at the domestic arrival section were severely impeded; several conveyor belts used for baggage were out of service.

The situation was brought under control only late in the evening, said sources.

Earlier this week, the IGI Airport was recognized as the world's second best airport in the 25-40 million passengers category by the Airport Council International.

Seoul was the gold standard in that category.
